The first section of chapter 2 explains how to explore your topic. You first need to create a plan to research and explore your topic, this plan should include people you can talk to about your topic and who know a lot about it, a list of questions to ask these people, a list of resources that you can so research on such as databases, catalogs and such. Next, you need to discuss your topic with others, this is just like a book but you can ask it whatever you want. Next you need to conduct preliminary observations. Finally, you need to find and review sources, and you need to determine the reliability of the sources you choose to use. Finding credible sources takes some work but it's not too difficult. There are so many sources out there for the use of research. You always need to make sure you take good notes of the sources you find and keep the source recorded.
The second section of chapter 2 explains how to focus on an issue. The first step to this is to identify conversations about issues in your topic, which is the first step in determining which issue is most appropriate for your topic. the next step is to access your interest in the issue, it's very difficult to write a persuasive paper on a topic that doesn't spark your interest. The final step is choosing your topic/issue, you really need to choose an issue that you're invested in and that has a lot of information available.
